Bonsai-bonanza!

23 Aug

I learnt an important life lesson this weekend by the way; don’t let T watch TV unsupervised, or it may lead to unplanned purchases of the botanical kind.

I.e. this Sunday, whilst I was occupying myself with baking this mouth watering marvel:

..T kept himself entertained by watching Karate Kid 3 on the dumb-box.  As soon as it was over,  he hopped his way over to the kitchen (having a broken leg and all) and asked for, nay, demanded that we get a bonsai tree for our flat. Damn you Mr. Miyagi!

(Although to be perfectly honest, I quite like bonsais. Just don’t tell T!)

So the following day we had a bit of an excursion to the nearest bonsai stocking florists that we could find on google, and got ourselves one of these babies:

Now it’s looking lovely on our bedroom window sill (the only place in the flat that gets any sunlight…) and all I have to worry about is the cat possibly eating it whole.

I guess I should feel lucky that T didn’t come away from the movie demanding that we take up karate…

Any more and I’d have a stroke.

I have had a rather unusually eventful week. Compared to my otherwise dreadfully dull summer, that is.

To demonstrate, here are some highlights from this past week:

1. I’ve had a Russian millionaire stay with T (T being my partner) and I for a couple of days. Now that’s not something you can everyday! He’s a university friend of ours and it was lovely to see him again. Especially since it meant that we got to meet up with two other uni friends  (who are currently staying in London doing fancy banking internships), and enjoy drinks on a roof top terrace with an amazing view of London, followed by a delicious meal at a Jamie Oliver restaurant called Barbecoa.

My Barbecoan starter was a crab salad with a “green goddess” dressing and it was probably the best crab salad I have ever had!

2. Also,  T’s littlest sister came to visit and we joined her and T’s father + step motherfor a lovely day out. First we saw the Lion King at the Lyceum – which was absolutely brilliant and had me bawling the whole time – and then we followed the jungle theme up with dinner at the Rainforest Café. Although the food could have been better, we were there for T’s little sister’s sake and I was pretty excited about my first time in a Rainforest Café anyway!

How’s that  for an adult Simba, huh?

3. I met up with my friend Sophia to see Tracey Emin’s new London exhibition called Love is what you want at the Hayward Gallery. It was… interesting. Let’s just say that I choose traditional oil paintings any day over display cases of used tampons and baby coffins. I still had a wonderful day though with Chicken Phó for lunch on the Southbank and I even had the luck of seeing a gorgeous Thandie Newton walk past. No joke guys, she was dressed like a hobo and had no make up on, yet she was FLAWLESS! I choose to take it as an inspiration rather than a reason to slit my wrists right here and now.

4. I’ve even been to the cinema this week! T and I went to see the premiere of The Inbetweeners, and believe it or not, but I really enjoyed it! Even though I initially only went to please T, as I find the Inbetweeners a bit too cringeful to take, I ended up being the one who laughed the hardest the whole way through!

As far as I can think: this past week only had two cons: the weather has been absolutely appalling and I caught a cold. But hey, who cares when the rest has been so great?!

I don’t get much more efficient than this.

Fine, so my summer has been so boring and so utterly devoid of thoughts that I haven’t written a single word since that first post two months ago. Which I’m sure you’ve noticed. NOT.
.
Today, however – something happened. It’s like the synapses in my brain finally switched on and I’m not only writing on here; but I’ve also joined pinterest AND twittered for the first time.
.
How’s THAT for being productive?!
.
Next task: achieving world peace.

Welcome! Välkommen! Bienvenue!

Wow, this is my first blog post in what – 3 years now? No pressure!
.
Alright, here’s the deal: I’ve recently finished my last ever semester at university and now that summer has begun I have nothing left to do. Having been silly enough to bag myself a job BEFORE the summer holiday (trust me, this is the first time EVER that I have finished a task ahead of schedule), means that I am now bored out of my mind. But hey, not that I’m complaining – I’ve got a job! And not just any job either, no I’ll be moving to London (!!) next month where I’ll start my new life as a young professional at one of the biggest professional services companies in the world. No big deal.
.
Soo… as I was saying, there’s only so much belly button lint picking that one can do before the urge to do something, ANYTHING strikes. My urge happened to tell me to get a blog, and so I did.
.
I’m sure this space will become a bit more interesting once I actually do move to the British city of wonders, but until then, I’m afraid you’re stuck with my boring everyday existence in Scotland and worse yet; my thoughts.
.
But before I leave, in case anyone thought my job-bragging was a bit obnoxious, here’s a picture of me to assure you that I am not. Obnoxious, that is.
(The scary kid under the stairs always cracks me up)
